Update Number 6

Journaled 24th January, 2001.

Hi again Christie and Matthew,

Well it's not as hot as yesterday, but still hot here. This morning I had
the gymkhana, which went well, although we took it very quietly and made
sure that the horses were looked after and as cool as possible and given
drinks. I reduced the number of events and the riding classes were judged
mostly "on the circle" rather than with individual workouts so as not to
keep ponies and riders standing in the sun. We all had fun and the horses
have the rest of the day off, except for Flash and Joey.

I fed Flash this morning, tended to his legs, which are doing well and
healing nicely, although the betadine is dribbling all over them in the
heat. I picked his feet up again this morning and he was well behaved about
having his back legs picked up. I was careful not to touch the cuts as I
picked them up, but he doesn't seem sore at all.

Joey and Flash are having a lovely time in the shade in the cool gully and
totally ignored the goings on at the gymkhana. Although they did wander over
mid morning to get a drink from their trough and everyone admired Flash. The
boys ambled back off into the shade again pretty quickly after drinking. Not
even admiring young fans would keep them out of their shady place!

I will work with Flash again this evening when it cools off.

I'm looking forward to getting on his back soon! But I'll wait until you are
up here on Friday, I promise.

I explained that Flash has his own website and some of the people who
attended the gymkhana are going to watch his progress.

Cheers,
Lisa
